Services and Activities
Through a joint partnership, American Humane Association and Tri-County Health Department’s Perinatal Services hosted a multi-disciplinary roundtable aimed at increasing awareness of perinatal depression in African American women among health and community-based providers on July 26, 2011. The goals of the day were to promote culturally competent and responsive strategies to improve access to education, prevention, care and treatment of this major public health concern. Through this event, the partners sought to increase the likelihood that pregnant African American women are screened and referred for treatment early on.
The CDRC will continue to present and disseminate Colorado’s data and, along with members of its Disparities Leadership Committee, will host regional meetings throughout Colorado to engage child welfare professionals, service providers, community partners, other mandated reporters, families and youth in taking action to address disparities. The CDRC is currently working closely with a consortium of 10 counties (Adams, Arapahoe, Denver, Douglas, El Paso, Fremont, Garfield, Jefferson, Larimer and Prowers) in a collaborative Learning Community environment in order to involve those closest to the work in creating and sustaining practice and policy improvements.
As always, the CDRC will look for every opportunity to ensure equity in child welfare services for all of Colorado’s children and families, and to serve as a model for others looking to reduce the disparities that exist within their own states and jurisdictions. |
